This document was developed the the KCA/KDOT Joint Weather Related Industry Committee, a partnership between the Kansas Contractors Association and the Kansas Department of Transportation. The intent of this document is to empower District Engineers to act at the district level to resolve weather related concerns quickly.
The KCA/KDOT Joint Weather Related Industry Committee is a standing committee that will continue to work together as weather conditions dictate. The main focus of this committee is to continually work to devise guidelines and suggestions toward an equitable matrix to determine relief on rigid calendar day projects and to place value of recouping lost days. Realizing each project is unique—in type of work, sequencing and physical location— the committee will try to devise an equitable standard or relief program. The committee will discuss, on an as needed bases, possible schedule changes, process changes or new material specifications to save time on projects.

KDOT is implementing its new Standard Specifications for State Road and Bridge Construction (2007 Edition) beginning with the August 15, 2007 highway letting. KDOT has made significant changes to the Division 100 "General Clauses and Covenants" as a result of a joint committee meeting between KCA members and KDOT officials. The entire 78-page Division 100 "July 2007 Reissue" specification is found in the following link.
KCA worked for the benefit of all contactors in the changes that we requested of the department. We once again thank the department for another fine example of true partnering that has resulted in the reissue of the important Division 100 specification.
